A business partner of mine recently said, "Hey Red, my site is not getting much traffic. I've tried a few ways, but it's getting expensive. I've been trying to figure out a way to market to the masses without the high costs. What do you suggest?"

This type of situation does not come as a surprise. It is very common for new websites to lack the funds for sufficient marketing. The high costs of CPC (Cost Per Click) and even higher costs of banner advertising can really hurt the shallow pockets of newly formed businesses.

My Solution: ------>FORUMS
Forums are inexpensive ways to market your website to targetted markets. How? Well a few keystrokes on any search engine can bring up thousands of forums on your particular market. Pick a few that closely resemble the type of site you are promoting. You can usually join these type of sites for a small nominal fee but most are free to join.

General Forum Etiquette
Most moderators of forums require that you not SPAM in their forums. Doing so will more than likely get you removed from their forum and prevented from joining again.

When you join forums, typically you can edit your signature. This is where you can add a link to your site. If you contribute a good amount of info in the forum boards, as you grow in popularity, you will soon reap the fruits of your labor in the form of visitors from your forum posts.

Also, some forums have an INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOUR BUSINESS board, where you are allowed to talk about your business. This is where you are allowed to shine. Talk it up, but try to make it a topic to talk about. Remember that members like topics to talk about, and they at times enjoy helping others if they can. In other words, don't burn your bridges... instead, pave the way to your island and watch the visitors come again and again.
